Eurobattery Minerals AB (Nordic Growth Market: “BAT”; “the Company”), a growth company in the mining and exploration industry with the vision to help Europe become self-sufficient in ethical battery minerals, today announced the first results from the drilling campaign for nickel, cobalt and copper at its Corcel project in Galicia in northern Spain. In the larger Corcel project, Castriz is one of three primary prospect areas together with Monte Mayor and Monte Castello.
Key points:
- Initial assay results received from recent drilling at Castriz prospect. Results received from the first two holes of the recent four hole, 998m drilling program.
- Previously identified coincident geochemical and geophysical anomalies now tested by drilling.
- Elevated levels of nickel (Ni), copper (Cu) and cobalt (Co) intersected in underlying bedrock. Assay highlights from the first two drill holes include:
- 69m @ 0.30% Ni, 0.04% Cu & 0.01% Co from 78m (19DD0001)
- 24.5m @ 0.30% Ni, 0.12% Cu & 0.01% Co from 14.5m (19DD0002)
- Extensive zone of Ni-Cu-Co anomalous rocks interpreted to exist at Castriz, with aforementioned drill holes separated by over 500m of strike length.
- Assay results pending from two additional drill holes. Results anticipated to be received in early 2020.
A total of four diamond drill holes were completed for a total of 998m with the Company receiving assay results for two of the drill holes and the results confirms high level of nickel.
– With the first drilling results in hand we can now confirm the high level of battery minerals in the ground that the previous analyses from field work this year have indicated. We are following our time plan and, in the beginning of 2020, we will receive the additional results from the remaining drill holes. However, already now we can conclude that there is a high level of nickel in the area and this is very encouraging, said Roberto García Martínez, CEO of Eurobattery Minerals.
Earlier field activities that BAT completed in the Castriz prospect identified four large zones, up to 1km in strike, with anomalous nickel (Ni), copper (Cu) and cobalt (Co) geochemistry and coincident increased magnetic responses in the underlying bedrock.
Three of the zones were drill tested to assess the potential for mafic-ultramafic hosted Ni-Cu-Co sulphide deposits. The drilling intersected a sequence of variably mineralised serpentinised ultramafic units, banded amphibolite and massive amphibolite units at the northern and western anomalies. Assay highlights from the first two holes includes:
- 69m @ 0.30% Ni, 0.04% Cu & 0.01% Co from 78m (19DD0001)
- 24.5m @ 0.30% Ni, 0.12% Cu & 0.01% Co from 14.5m (19DD0002)
The first two drill holes are separated by over 500m in strike indicating the potential for an extensive zone of near-surface metal-rich rock may occur in the area.
After receiving the final results in the beginning of 2020, BAT will assess the broader potential of the Castriz prospect for containing Ni-Cu-Co sulphide resources in near-surface ultramafic units and at depth, and Cu-sulphide resources in the amphibolite units similar to the Touro Copper Project (46.5Mt @ 0.37% Cu) located ~60km southeast of the Castriz prospect, owned by Atalaya Mining PLC.
The attached report contains detailed analysis about the drilling results received to date.

Eurobattery Minerals AB (NGM; “BAT”), a growth company in the mining and exploration industry with the vision to help Europe become self-sufficient in ethical battery minerals, today announced an update on its explorations projects in Sweden. Similar to the project the company runs in Castriz in northern Spain where the results from the drilling campaign will be announced later in Q4, the focus for the Swedish projects is nickel, cobalt and copper, including also rare earth elements (REE), minerals that are all critical raw materials for the electric vehicle market in Europe.
– I am happy to announce the outcome of this year’s field work in our projects across the northern parts of Sweden, said Roberto García Martínez, CEO of Eurobattery Minerals. Even if it is clear that we need to conduct further analysis and more field work in 2020, the results are encouraging.
In total, Eurobattery Minerals have 7 explorations permits in the northern parts of Sweden and all have recently been further investigated by geologists. In the field work, new samples have been taken for petrographic and chemical analysis and previously found and analyzed bouldes and outcrops have been investigated further.
Following this update, the material will be further evaluated in the coming months and form the basis for next year’s exploration work.
Below is an update project by project.
SÖRTJÄRN and BRÄNNKAMMEN
In the company’s permit areas Sörtjärn and Brännkammen in Västerbotten, a total of about 30 new rock samples have been collected for chemical analysis.
In addition to high gold levels (6-15 ppm Au in some boulders), new analyses at Brännkammen also shown elevated levels of nickel and cobalt.
Brännkammen is located in an area where previously conducted studies show elevated nickel and copper levels according ore maps from the Geological Survey of Sweden. In the coming field season in 2020, further investigations and samplings are planned to determine the area’s ore potential, especially regarding nickel and cobalt.
FETSJÖN and RÖNNBERGET
The bedrock within the exploration permits Fetsjön and Rönnberget both consist of shales rich in many metals, e.g. rare earth elements (REE), molybdenum and vanadium.
Compilations and evaluations of 52 boreholes in Fetsjön and 4 boreholes in Rönnberger have been carried out and a detailed analysis and description of the geological and metallogenic conditions can be found on the Eurobattery Minerals website. The mineralogical composition of the deposits and determinations of the graphite content of the shales have recently been investigated with electron microscope.
PAHTAVAARA and PIETARASJÄRVI
In Norrbotten, the two exploration permits Pahtavaara and Pietarasjärvi east of Kiruna have been surveyed to assess previously performed analyses, collecting new samples and planning upcoming exploration efforts.
At Pahtavaara no further mineralized boulders or rock outcrops could be found and the area needs to be investigated more carefully with excavations and geophysical measurements.
At Pietarasjärvi, several boulders were examined and some additional, slightly mineralized boulders were found. An outcrop with copper mineralization, just outside the permit area was investigated. Information from the outcrop, from boulders, maps and previous investigations in the area indicate that the exploration permit should be extended to the north and northeast.
BRUKSBERGET
In the survey area Bruksberget in Västernorrland, detailed magnetic measurements have been carried out. The results from the measurements will be carefully evaluated in a near future.

Eurobattery Minerals AB (NGM; “BAT”); a growth company in the mining and exploration industry with the vision to help Europe become self-sufficient in ethical battery minerals, today announced the start of the drilling campaign in its Spanish ‘Corcel project’ in northwest Spain. ‘Corcel’ is located at Castriz, approximately 50 km southwest of the regional centre of La Coruña, Galicia. Leading Spanish drilling contractor Geonor Sondeos y Perforaciones S.L “Geonor” has been awarded the contract and drilling starts today. The company has recently finalized a comprehensive analysis of the deposit in the Corcel finding and concluded that there are large deposits of nickel in the ground as well as cobalt and copper. Eurobattery Minerals are now launching the next step when drilling commence today.
– Europe’s big automotive industry has a great need for sustainably produced batteries. Something that the EU Commission has also identified as an important strategic goal for the region in order to be climate neutral. Achieving this requires sustainable and ethical mined battery minerals. Through the drilling we are now launching and we are taking an important step in providing Europe with ethical battery minerals,” says Roberto García Martínez, CEO of Eurobattery Minerals.
Drilling at Corcel will be an important milestone for Eurobattery Minerals, no modern exploration method have been applied there since the 1980’s. The company is expecting to complete the drilling campaign during Q4 2019 and after this announce the final results of the campaign.
Following an analysis of the historical data, Eurobattery Minerals defined a near-surface exploration target in the range of 75Mt to 100Mt @ 0.4% Nickel (Ni), 0.02% Cobalt (Co) and 0.2% Copper (Cu). After its own exploration activities, (with up to 0.66% Ni was recorded), which defined a number of anomalies of larger scale than the historical exploration recognised, Eurobattery Minerals is reassessing this exploration target with the view of significantly increasing it.
– The mineralisation already identified at Corcel is shallow, and would therefore be amenable to low cost with open cut mining methods which would make the economics strong for any potential mine developments, in which >0.15% Ni is a typical economic cut-off for open cut nickel deposits, said Roberto García Martínez.

Spanish drilling contractor Geonor will conduct the drilling. The company, founded in 2001, is dedicated to provide services in the fields of civil engineering, construction and mining. They are specialists in conducting mineral and geotechnical drilling, as well as in technical assistance in these fields, having worked for a number of international exploration and mining companies and is one of the leading drilling contractors in Spain.
– I am looking forward to work in close collaboration with Geonor in the drilling campaign and ultimately to get the final results later in Q4, Roberto García Martínez concludes.
