The European Battery Alliance (EBA) was launched in October 2017 by European Commission Vice President Maroš Šefčovič. A collaboration with Uppsala University and Krakow AGH University of Science & Technology in an attempt to find new ways to recover rare earth elements (REE) from apatite without the risk of unwanted residues. The project studies ways that can potentially open up new, more efficient and cost-effective methods for obtaining battery minerals as a complement to the currently used technology in the industry.
